A unique opportunity to experience Mallorca’s textile heritage from within and meet the people who continue to keep this tradition alive.
Manufacturing process
The basic part of the manufacturing process is manual, as used to be in old times. The warp is prepared based on white cotton. It is dyed in portions acording to the required pattern. This is why the Cloth of Tongues (Roba de Llengües) does not have front or back. Instead, both sides have an identical pattern.
The dying is carried out based on solid colours. Once dyed, the composition of the pattern is made. This is the most delicate, complicated process.
Later the fabric is taken to the loom to give body with linen using a flat weave. The Vicenç fabric is made up of natural fibers, 70% cotton and 30% linen. Its width is 1,50 meters.
